Volleyball Coach Carmen Hochevar

Coach Carmen Hochevar served in 2009-2010 as Head Middle School Volleyball Coach, and she has a rich legacy of building championship programs at the high school, club, and college level. Her teams have produced several college-level players. Several of her teams won district and regional titles in a tough volleyball-rich Colorado region.
Carmen is married to GCA Head Baseball Coach Brian Hochevar, Their son Luke is a pitcher for the Kansas City Royals, their younger son Dylan pitches for UT's baseball team, and their daughter Brittany, a two-time All-American player at Long Beach State and now plays on the international AVP Tour. Carmen has a passion for volleyball and is well-known across the country as a coach who has built strong, competitive volleyball programs with multiple offensive schemes, quick, reactionary defenses, spot serving, and players who sacrifice personal goals for the team's success. She believes in developing that same passion for greatness not only in volleyball, but in glorifying God in every aspect of life. She has served as an FCA leader, and she believes in building that all-important relationship with Christ that will overflow into a love for serving God and others.



Championship Volleyball at GCA! Girls Finish Fourth in Class A!
The girls District and Region 2 champion volleyball team provided our loyal GCA fans with some exciting volleyball at the TSSAA Class A State Volleyball Tournament this week. They opened the tournament against Loretto and lost, so they had to fight to remain in the hunt for the state title.
They played Madison Magnet School from Jackson and downed them in three straight games (25-17, 25-6, 25-16) to advance to Thursday's action. They woke up Thursday morning and played anther Jackson school, Trinity Christian Academy. Again, the Rams prevailed in three straight games, 25-21, 25-19, 25-12.
They waited for Boyd Buchanan to play their first-round opponent Loretto to see who they would play next. Loretto lost in four games to Boyd Buchanan, setting up a rematch with the Rams in the 4:30 pm game. Loretto came out strong and proved to be too powerful an opponent, defeating our ladies in three games, 25-12, 25-12, 25-16. Loretto would advance to face Signal Mountain, with that winner advancing to the finals against Boyd Buchanan. The Lady Rams finished with a Class A State Tournament record of 2-2, and an overall season record of 32-9.
LADY RAMS NAMED TO
ALL-DISTRICT, ALL-REGION TEAMS
All-District players were named l prior to the regional tournament, and GCA led the way with five members. Freshman Kennedy Wade and junior Caroline Whitaker were named co-MVP's of the District, while Leigh Anne Self, Reagan Wade, and Alysha Disney were named to the All-District team.
On October 15, the team added the school's first regional crown to its list of accomplishments, defeating Jellico in three straight games. District MVP Caroline Whitaker was also named TSSAA Region 2 MVP, and teammates Reagan Wade and Leigh Anne Self were named to the All-Region team.
