VARIETY.  TRAVEL.   RHYTHM.   WORSHIP

Choral music is an integral part of the overall student development at GCA. From the very beginning of their educational process, students at the Academy are involved in a variety of musical experiences. From hands-on learning to choral competitions, GCA students learn about the joy of singing and sharing the love of Christ through music.

In elementary school, music theory is put into practice early. Regular exercises and performances are a big part of the school year, which climaxes each year with an ambitious and amazing musical. Recent productions have included "Annie", "Beauty and the Beast", and "The Music Man".

In middle school, students are under the direction of Ms. Melissa Shuler-Cleveland. They are exposed to music theory and practice Melissa Shuler-Clevelanda variety of singing techniques that stretch and move them into new areas of greatness. While learning about choral music, students also have the opportunity to perform in a variety of ways, with several members of this choir also participate in leading worship in chapel each week. A highlight for every choir member is the opportunity to perform at the Christmas Dinner Concert and Spring concerts. A recent trip to New York City featured a memorable competition in the world-famous Carnegie Hall.

The high school choir, also directed by Ms. Shuler-Cleveland, has grown from a small ensemble to more than 60 members, who must pass an audition that seeks to expand a student's vocal potential but also their heart for worship and ministry, the centerpiece of the Grace Christian Fine Arts program. Service projects for the choir have included collecting clothing, food and supplies for neighborhood children as well as for overseas missions. The choir also travels each year to compete and to minister. Recent trips have been to Orlando for Festival Disney, New York, and Chicago, where the students ministered to an urban congregation and performed in a variety of venues.
