Fantastic Season, Bright Future Lies Ahead ffor Middle School Basketball Teams
The 2009-2010 GCA basketball program had an excellent season. Four teams provided plenty of action and playing time for our growing middle school population. The Varsity "A" boys team, coached by Billy Wilson, finished with a strong 14-4 record, and they advanced to the Final Four of the KISL Tournament this season. Brad Andrews was named to both All-Tournament and All-League teams, while teammate Matt Holland was honored as a member of the All-League Team.
The 2009-2010 Varsity "A" girls were coached by Steve Borden, and they also advanced to the KISL semifinals this season. Despite key injuries to starters Lauren Hensley and Haley Viles, the Lady Rams finished with a 10-14 won-loss record, and they advanced to the KISL semifinals before losing to a strong Webb team. All-KISL honors went to Marisa Infield, while Lauren Hensley was named to the All-Tournament team.
The JV or "B" girls team, coached by Lecia Watson, is a scrappy group that always provided lots of exciting games, closing out the season with a 5-9 overall record and a second place finish in the KISL JV Tournament this year. All-League players Taylor Dodson and Hannah DaVault were honored as All-League. Abby Smith, Taylor Dodson and Hannah DaVault were also All-Tournament, and Taylor Dodson was also voted the KISL tournament MVP.
Coach Joel Sampsel worked with this year's "B" boys team, finishing with a 15-1 season record. The Rams advanced to the final of the KISL JV tournament and came away with two plaques as league and tournament champs. Most Valuable Player Cameron Kuerschen was joined on the All League and All Tournament team by teammate Luke Shepherd.
