Middle school players hoist the championship plaque after winning the KISL tournament.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men”. (Colossians 3:23)

The purpose for our middle school athletics is to build on the Christian principle that we as athletes have the opportunity to represent Christ in our attitudes and conduct.

As coaches we must emphasize our Christian journey in our practices and competitions. We also serve as a feeder program for the high school, and it is our goal to help each athlete reach that next level. It is for this reason that middle and high school coaches work closely together to develop a team concept and a winning attitude. Whether it is in victory or in defeat, student athletes learn to glorify God, because it is the ultimate victory in Christ that remains the primary focus.

Middle School Teams End Season On a High Note-
4 Final Four Teams, One League Runner-Up, One Champion!

Taylor Dodson and Hannah DaVaultThe Middle School Varsity "A" and JV "B" teams started the season with hours of practice, floor burns, and gallons of Gatorade. The players were rewarded with quite a few memories, some close games, and quite a haul of postseason honors..

The Varsity teams played the KISL Large Tournament at CAK, with both teams advancing to the tournament semifinals. The girls took on Webb and played an aggressive defense but fell short of their goal of winning the KISL championship.

The Varsity boys played Sacred Heart in a game that went down to the final minute of play. Great offensive and defensive rebounds helped spark a late rally, but Sacred Heart hit a couple key shots to seal the win and advance to the finals.

Luke Shepherd and Cameron KuerschenOver at The Episcopal School, both JV "B" teams advanced to the tournament finals. The girls played first, facing a fifth-seeded Apostolic Christian team. The Rams played tenacious defense, forcing numerous turnovers that resulted in fast break opportunities, but Apostolic made a late run near the end of the game to seal the win and the championship plaque. The All-Tournament team was well-represented by Rams, with both hannah DaVault and Taylor Dodson being named to the squad. Taylor was also named tournament MVP for her outstanding play.

In the boys' final, Grace faced off against Sacred Heart in a game that featured a see-saw score. Neither team could get a lead of more than three points until Cameron Kuerschen landed a short jumper to give the Rams a lead in the final minute they would never relinquish. Patrick Smith played a tremendous defensive game, holding Sacred Heart's leading scorer to only five points. The All-Tournament Team honored both Luke Shepherd and Cameron Kuerschen, and Cameron also received an MVP trophy. Coach Joel Sampsel was extremely proud of the way the boys maintained their poise in a very tense struggle.

Congratulations to all four GCA middle school teams for their fine representation in the KISL this season!
